Remarkable Events

• International Solar Alliance Conference held in New Delhi on March 11, 2018.

Leaders from 33 countries participated in the conference to ensure concessional financing for promoting solar energy. Modi also encouraged the leaders to increase the level of investment in the renewable sources of energy.  On the very next day of the conference, PM Modi and French President Mr. Macron Inaugurated the biggest solar plant of Uttar Pradesh in Chhanvey block that is in Mirzapur district.

• The Supreme Court gave the verdict on Passive Euthanasia.

Passive Euthanasia is the permit for the removal of life support systems for the people who are suffering from terminal diseases or are in the state of incurable coma. The Passive Euthanasia will only be applied to the people who are terminally ill with zero hope of recovery. The Chief Justice Mr. Dipak Misra gave a highly logical statement that says “should we not allow them to cross the door and meet death with dignity? For some, even death could be a moment of celebration.”

The prerequisite is that the person should make a living will while that person is in the sound state of health and mind.

• Rajasthan passed a bill of capital punishment for rapists.

Rajasthan has become the second state in the country to pass a bill proposing capital punishment for raping the girls aged 12 years or below after Madhya Pradesh that passed this bill in the year 2017. Madhya Pradesh Government is still waiting for President’ Assent.

• Kumbh Mela gets the tag of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage

The mass Hindu pilgrimage of spirituality and faith has got a place in UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.  

• Scorpene class INS Kalvari Commissioned

India’s first Scorpene class submarine INS Kalvari got commissioned into Indian Navy. PM Narendra Modi unveiled the commissioning plaque. The INS Kalvari is built by the Mazgaon Dockyard Limited in Mumbai.  

• Cabinet approved a bill that criminalizes the instant triple talaq.

The Union Cabinet cleared a bill that criminalizes the unethical practice of triple talaq. This will save the interests of millions of Muslim women. Earlier it was very simple of the Muslim men to get rid of their wives by mentioning the word talaq three times, irrespective of the media. It could be done on WhatsApp, mail, letters and orally. The jail of 3 years will be given to the person found guilty.
